Key Facts:-
Type: High bay warehouse
Client: Coca-Cola
Total Area: 10,000m2
Height: 22m
Tonnage: 600T
Site Duration: 16 Weeks
REIDsteel designed and made the steelwork for this large manufacturing and distribution centre; 10,000m2 regional service centre situated at East Kilbride in Scotland. The centre produces 10 million cases of soft drink a year.
The main building is a High Bay warehouse with an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) containing computer-controlled storage to provide precise tracking of the loads and has racking all the way up to the roof which is 23.5 metres high at the eaves. The building is 90m long and has a clear span of 54m.
Due to the AS/RS the client required a design that was carefully co-ordinated with the supplier of this system; this provided further challenges to the technical brief in addition to the structures imposing height.
At one end is in-feed area with a length of 38m and a span of 68m. This building is 9.5m to eaves. At the other end is the 40m long despatch building. This continues the 54m span of the main building, but is only 8.5m to eaves.
We erected and clad all three buildings in 16 weeks.
Note the cathedral like interior before the automatic storage and retrieval system was installed.
What REIDsteel supplied:-
We designed and supplied a prefabricated steel frame to reduce the onsite programme which enabled the building to be weather tight quickly. This enabled the client to commence their fit-out earlier in the project programme.
We clad the building using a high performance cladding system that provides high levels of thermal performance. As REIDsteel were both structural and cladding contractor, the cladding went on without a hitch as all superstructure trades were co-ordinated in- house giving a fuss free experience for the client on site. |
